I have been offshore in PNG for Canyon out of singapore and about 2 weeks ago we heard that somebody lost 2 guys in an ROV incident off Australia , any truth in this , safety is lax in the Asia pacific area.
I did hear an ROV vessel lost 1 guy over the side while in transit on their way to singapore somewhere off top end of oz but he was part of the marine crew not ROV.
The guy lost overboard was a crewman off a Fugro seismic vessel.A kiwi I believe. The second guy broke his ankle trying to save him. He was taken to hospital in Perth. The lost man has not been found to date.
Ah that would be it , probably the sharks got him , very sad and a warning to us all.
Last week a canyon ROV was dropped on Deck whilst launching near OZ the umbilical snapped due to a winchman loosing concentration. Luckily no body hurt but bruised egos and loss of big $
From New Zealand media:
The vessel belongs to DOF Subsea,
Was enroute from New Zealand to Sigapore,
Man lost was NZ Marine crew,
Man injured in a rescue attempt was taken to Cairns (Queensland, Australia), not Perth (other side of country).
There is some controversy over why the vessels Skipper/AUSSAR called off search after only 12 hours.
Plenty of stories about this in New Zealand media.
