any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi everyone,
I seem to be in the same position as everyone else seeking a trainee job.I have an HND electrical/electronic eng and i also sponsored myself through full European offshore survival and medical.Ive been phoning, emailing and sending paper c.v’s to most Aberdeen based rov operating companies since sept 07.Ive managed to have a face to face and also a telephone interview since with no joy due to lack of practical experience!I have been working for a rail maintenance company for the past couple of years carrying out track maintenance duties.I have recently changed job internally to my current role as Trainee Signaling Technician. We maintain and fault find on all electrical+mechanical signaling equipment by use of schematic diagrams various testing apparatus and of course teamwork!!Ive been doing this for a few months now with an in-house practical maintenance course completed.

I would much rather be working offshore within the rov industry though!Various reasons including higher earning potential with decent time off! The main question is whether an rov course would benefit my chances of employment within recognized company or just keep applying the way i have?

Any advice and guidance would be great.thanks

P.S Does anyone know who would be recruiting for trainees at present or near future??

    thanks chris

I would not get to worried at the moment. Over the next few months I would guess everyone will be recruiting.

    There are the big players:
    Acergy
    SS7
    Fugro/Rovtech
    Technip
    Sonsub
    Oceaneering.

then the not so big guys:
    Hallin Marine
    STS
    ISS
    Allseas

Or even and this will probably get a negative reaction
    Omega resources
    Mansell Recruitment

Which are recruitment agencies for a couple of the larger companies.

I would say at least one of them would take you with a HND there are a lot of guys appearing offshore a lot less qualified than you at the moment.

I typed ‘ISS ROV’ and ‘STS ROV’ into Google.

And these were the first hits:

    http://www.integratedsubsea.co.uk/rov.htm

    http://www.stsrov.com/

But if you want to work with ROVs you should be able to figure out something this obvious for yourself.

It is more likely that more people with more qualifications and experience are applying.

i.e. half the royal Air Force!

Stay clear of STS unless you have recently purchased a new kevlar jacket!
Even that might not keep the knifes out! 😀
