Yep, worked alongside it 6 months ago.
Apparently there was a case of botulism onboard 🙁
It was refurbished a few years back. Unfortunately i’ve seen the standard of workmanship done by the Azeris so i wouldn’t hold your breath 🙄 😯

I did a trip on her a couple of years ago – it seemed ok to me, although the vessel kept breaking down!

Hopefully they will have modified the ROV LARS – it didn’t leave much clearance between ROV and hull during launch / recovery.

    Enjoy!

Cheers for the replys, as far as I know it a complete new system going on so LARS should nt be a prob, but I have heard a few bad strories about the conditions 🙄 🙄 The botulism story though 😯 😯

    Thanks again.

    Hi There,

Sorry for the late reply, been sleeping on shift again….. 😀

Spent two +++ years on the vessel, it was being run by McDee’s at the time and was a nice vessel, food was OK, Sat TV in the room, Internet in the shack etc……

Probably not up to North Sea Tiger standard but a pleasant change from the crap that you get in the middle east for example.

Understand that Saipem have taken over the vessel from McDee’s so anything goes now I guess. Never been on a Saipem vessel that I would want to go back to, food normally shite, idiots running the job etc…..

Let the world know what it’s like if you do decide to head out that way.

    Cheers

I thought the food was great on the Castero Otto a few years ago and I have heard that it has improved since then from lads that have been on it recently. It did have an Italian slant to it, but shit, it just so happens I love Italian food. There was a couple of jocks and they thought it was "pishe" but wtf do they know about food.

I remember doing a TD monitoring job for the Castoro 6… They had a converted drillship as a work vessel alongside. They (heaven forbid!) ran out of pasta (a fongu!!), so they actually sent the (large) work vessel to the beach to get a load of pasta – or so the story goes…

Food on the the C8 is excellent: Aussie food + Aussie cooks. On joining in Singapore it was terrible, subsistence rations.

As for the Tofiq, well the food was bland but edible if you like salmon with everything! (Sounds better than it is).

While I was there the Camp Boss (push start) was presented with a cook book by the captain, I don’t know if he ever learnt to use it though.

    Cheers,

    Ozfifer

Good mince and tatties at the Camel Toe in Baku though! 😉

Ive experienced no problems at all with SnSb s conditions or food so far, but will bare the camel toe in mind 😆 😆

    Cheers again for the replies

    BUMP !!

Anyone got a recent update on the Akademik Tofiq living standards? Ideally I’m looking for a spec sheet .pdf on the vessel; very little info available online.

In terms of capabilities – is she single or twin bell dsv and does she have an ROV aboard?

    Best Regards,

    Grant

    Hey Savante

Just got of there last Dec. Old vessel, old accommodation, nice crew, the kitchen is famous for their curry.
WROV – Innovator 24 on-board and little Baby ROV onboard.

I was on there last year and had done a fair few shifts on board. Food was great. ROV well maintained. Work class and eye ball. 1 bell dive system. Just ended up chasing the money as son sub were not the best rates on offer. Still it was a trade off lower rates for good ship. The locals on board can be difficult but that never relay concerned me in my role. Crew change at port every 2 weeks no choppers. We did month on month off roughly. I would go back at the drop off a hat if the money was better. Lads on board were in general Ok to get along with. The ship was quite clean and yes there was a few breakdowns but not any worse than other ships I have been on. If you get a offer on there I would say go for it you dont have to stay if after a month you find it is not for you.
