    Hi Guys,

I am currently looking to get into the ROV field but have zero experience in it. I have 10+ years in instrumentation and process control but I’ve pretty much gone as far as i can in that area without becoming stuck behind a desk.
I’d love to be involved more in the service and repair of the equipment rather than the actual piloting but again i have no idea if that is possible.
I live in Aberdeen so i assume that there are companies out there that i could speak to but could anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks
    Mike

You could get a job as a Base Tech. If you do, you could maybe progress to offshore ROV later on if you feel you might enjoy it.

Watch out in the P&J for base tech jobs, look up all the big players in Aberdeen – Sonsub, Oceaneering, Technip, Fugro, Canyon, etc. yopu know how many base themselves in Aberdeen!

What about one of the equipment hire companies, Ashtead, Seatronics? Consider work on survey side as well as ROV as again people have moved from Survey to ROV (plus most ROV companies have a survey side as well)

I got a start as a base tech for 5 months and it was very useful lead in to working offshore with ROVs ripping dead machines apart and full overhauls etc.. I had 25 years as a Telecomms and mechanical Tech + previous offshore experience. Go in that way if you can .
