On 12 January 2009, the requirements for passengers travelling to the United States from the Visa Waiver Programme countries will change.

As of that date, residents of the Visa Waiver Programme countries will also need a supplementary travel authorization. This is in addition to a valid passport and the I-94 form that you receive aboard the aircraft and then have to complete. This supplementary travel authorization is easy to request from the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). The request has to be made at least 72 hours before departure.

Travellers included in this new regulation but who have not requested an ESTA travel authorization can be denied travel to the United States.

Read more about requesting the supplementary travel authorization and ESTA.
