ParticipantThe ROV activities (with in the meantime about 125 ROVs) are split off from Offshore Survey and will form a new business line: Subsea Services.

ParticipantThey tried this in late 1990s as FUGRO-UDI in Aberdeen when they purchased their first 2 Tritons; with Ian Valintine heading up the show.
Something about those "Survey Types" having a really hard time with "seperation anxiety" 😆 So, we’ll see how long this try lasts.

Not really, UDI, Marconi-UDI, Fugro-UDI, UDI-Wimpol, then back to Fugro UDI and finally Fugro Survey (how many different names can the same company have) were/are all under the Survey Division of Fugro.
They have never had an ROV Division, with the number of ROVs owned and different Fugro companies now running ROVs, theyve made the decision to take it out of Survey and have their own, headed up by Jim Sommerville (no, not the singer).
Makes more sense as the ROVs are now doing a lot more than just survey.

ParticipantHang Hang on 😕
If I recall , Sonsub was bought out by Oceaneering ,
Most of Sonsub’s work was through UDI at the time.
UDI did not want Oceaneering taking on the contracts the following year so started up their own division with Super Scorpios , Hence the Super Scorpio fleet was re born ( possibly STS had a hand in it aswell )
Others not wanting to stay with the oceaneering buy out ( For some
In-explicable reason 😀 ) went to UDI on a grand adventure 😕
Others not wanting to be associated with Surveyor wimps opted for UCL and even went back into the Subsea fold for comfort and shite wages.

8)It was never a seperate "Division" as divisions go within Fugro. I think the Divisions are:- Geotechnical, Survey, Geoscience and Airborne Survey (and now ROV).
Marconi UDI, then renamed Fugro UDI, UDI Wimpol then back to Fugro UDI, it was always part of the Survey Division. Only now have they made a completely seperate ROV Division within the whole Fugro Empire now that so many Fugro Companies have ROVs.
Back then only Aberdeen had ROVs, Scorpio 40a, Super Scorpio 10 leading onto Sea Demons 1,2,3, Seaeye Surveyor 212a (i.e. 213!), MRV5 (from buying Geoteam), then TXL 21, 22, 26, 27.
You know time is getting on when the last ROV Ops Manager to leave was an ex 225 Pilot. Soon it will be "I remember flying Tritons" 🙂
