Have any of you guys used the Schilling XE TMS (Extended Excursion).
If so Is it reliable? / easy to operate?

Has anyone used the Flying version of the above or any flying Schilling TMS?

If you have used the standard Schilling TMS is this working OK?

    Any feedback welcome.

Currently on a spread using the XE TMS we’re having a problem with one TMS wrt its tether tensioner but there is a factory mod that hasn’t been fitted yet. It wouldn’t be the 1st manufacturer to have problems in this area either.

Both TMSs here are flying models but are not used in that mode due to a) lack of a heading sensor and b) geniuses using the TMS to tie the umbilical in knots.

In general though a pretty good piece of kit well laid out with good access where you need it.

I did not infer that any of the current crew using these TMS’s were responsible for any damage or express/pass any judgment on their abilities.

If I have caused offense I apologise unreservedly.

    Ozfifer 🙁

No disclaimer required! You are possibly being too politically correct!!

    b) geniuses using the TMS to tie the umbilical in knots.

If this is/has happened, no names were mentioned and those anonymous geniuses (Past or current crews) will know who they are anyway, so no harm done there. But they do need to ask themselves how they ended up tying things up in knots in the first place. 🙄

Oops…. drifting off topic there 😉

We are using a non-flying XE TMS. One system has had a host of issues, most of which related to the pump taking a dump and clogging up every valve and cartridge in the system with metal shavings. The other system on board has had little to no issues (knocking wood). They had a firmware issue with the latch sensor PCB back in April I think. They sent out replacement cards at no cost to swap out. We had to replace two that went out before they did the firmware upgrade. The latest Gen 2 XE TMS have upgraded the whole levelwind assembly. The only thing I would say needs to be improved is the bullet height indicator. It rarely stays in alignment for long, and needs to be adjusted all the time, otherwise the latch indicator on the TMS page of the GUI shows the bullet always hanging on the safety latches. Not a big deal, and is usually ignored due to the hassle involved in adjusting it. All in all, comparing to the old Perry and Innovator TMS, it’s lightyears ahead.
