Just a quick line to judge the feelings of all you experienced hands out there.
I get the feeling that this year may be rather quiet, but I’m also being told that once the new financial year starts, oil companies will know what budget they have for the forthcoming year, and work will kick off in earnest.
    What are your thoughts?

this year has started slowly for me. only 2 jobs so far this year. hopefully thing pick up. with so many people sitting and lack of work, it seems that the ones who have been on the job previously or who are willing to make a financial sacrifice are the ones getting called back. of course thats just my opinion from what others have been telling me and what i read on this fine website. of course im all for the slack a$$es working and breaking things so i can go at my rate and hopefully weed them out of future work. the old saying "you get what you pay for" hopefully comes into play.

Yes, it will be "ok" though not boom time for the "known" hands who have been in the game for a good while,

But i think the new hands will be facing a tough time…

When i was picking names for a crew change the other week i only looked at guys i have worked with and know to be good,

I would be mad to take a chance on a new hand when guys i know and trust are on the beach.

Right Lads, will it get busy this year or not?

    Yes!

Given that oil has recovered/risen for the last 12 months or so and settled around €80.00… subsea projects will most likely come on line sooner rather than later.

Maybe, my company dont have to much and they have quiet a few systems sitting on the beach and right now, not much going on the grown up say.
Another thing, the guys i work with have not been "offered" lower day rate
this is 11 people so far this trip, North Sea work.

To put it in perspective, there’s as much work as there always was – except through the boom time (notice the word is singular…).

The only difference is that there are 4 to 5 times more people in the industry so it SEEMS to be slow….

I bet a lot of you newer guys 15 years or less in the biz’, are questioning yourselves now on "Why the eff did I spend XXXXX dollars, pounds, or euros on a real basic ROV course"??? Not that we (us older carunts) didn’t tell you so…..

IT WOULD SEEM LIKE THERE COULD BE JUST A FEW OF YOU THAT COULD BE AFRAID THAT US NEWER GUYS MIGHT BE A THREAT TO YOU OR YOU MUST BE LIKE SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT TRY TO PUT THE OTHER PEOPLE OFF (LESS COMPETITION IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN)

If you get 15 years return from one training course then I would say that was a good investment

Ocean, don’t flatter yourself. Why don’t you read through the Rookie forums and read what people have been saying for years about Training schools and courses. If you don’t want to believe the advice that’s up to you. There are guys with YEARS of experience sitting at home with no work right now. What chance do you think the hundreds of people every year who pay out good money to do a training course stand of getting a job?

And if you cannot even learn not to type in Capitals all the time, you’re IT skills seem to be lacking, maybe you should do a course.

15 years to get your investment back??? I’d rather put it in a bank even with the kee-rap rates they offer….. Better figure for 1 or 2 years return with interest….. smart investments work for the most part.

Ocean dont spend £1000s on an ROV course get a job as a trainee pilot.
I did it and all it cost me was the travel to an interview.
