Has the recent close-down of a lot of EU airspace messed you up? Are you stuck on a job due off, or waiting to go offshore and can’t?

Salary? Day rate? What have the pro’s and cons been during all this?

    So who’s stuck where?

I get the impression that a good few people think/hope that this will all go away in a few days.. except that I’m reading/hearing that it could carry on for days, weeks or months. This may force companies to consider a little more closely where they hire people from.

Yeah, no more English, Welsh or Irish, you will have to live within 100 miles of Aberdeen Heliport 😀

Well, if the planes aren’t flying I doubt if the choppers will (much). Aberdeen and P/Heed harbours will be much busier and I would suggest that mysteriously offshore boat-boat and billy pugh type transfers will most likely become ‘safe‘ again 😉

No more people from overseas either.
The whole show will be too dependant on the wind direction, so it’ll be very hit and miss on whether they can get people into or out of the UK at any given time, let alone offshore.
I sense SS7 might have a change of heart on where they source their next batch of ROV trainees from 😉

Down in Africa at the moment, crew change supposed to happen on Tuesday but with no flights there are a few glum faces on board. Us day raters who are stuck at work are laughing all the way to the bank. Not so good if your on day rate and stuck at home.

They may find a work around for flights or not… this could be a long term issue though.

Those trying to get back, or out of, the UK.

Lisbon airport is open. You can get to it overland from Northern Spain. From the UK you can use the ferry service from Plymouth or Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao. Lisbon is about 4hrs drive from either of the latter.
    There are trains as well.

Sounds pretty whacky but hey!…. think of a more solid method and I’m sure people will listen.

The divers would be fine as they can top it up with inert gas…. not too sure about the platforms though 😉

Apparently the UK labour government is asking the EU parliament to consider levying CO2 tax on Iceland.
    Why?
Because the volcano has pumped more harmful gases into the atmosphere in 4 days than than all the cars in Northern Europe put together have in the last 10 years 😉
Gordon Brown feels that new volcano tax should be imposed on any country that does not have an effective volcano management policy in place.
