CONTRACTORS RETURN SAFELY TO SURFACE
The two civilian contractors onboard the Australian Submarine Rescue Vehicle (ASRV) Remora have returned safely to the surface and are currently onboard the Navy frigate HMAS Anzac. The recovery operations this afternoon were conducted successfully by divers from the ASRV’s operators, Caldive, assisted by personnel from the Royal Australian Navy.
Both contractors exited the Remora unharmed after it was raised close to the surface using a secondary recovery system. They have undergone medical checks onboard HMAS Anzac and are well.
The ASRV spent the last 15 hours on the sea bed in approximately 130 metres of water following a failure of the winching recovery system at around midnight last night.
