I’m looking into starting a new career in the ROV Industry but I am unsure whether to go with the Underwater Center at Fort William or with Subnet in the Phillipines?

Subnet seem to be a lot cheaper and I can do the electrical introduction (I am a Mechanically biased engineer) AND the ROV Pilot/Tech grade 2 for the same price as Fort Williams 3 week course for experinced electrical engineers.

Also, would it be adviseable to do ONLY the 3 week course at Fort William whilst having only a small amount of elctrical knowledge?

Please advise, I dont want to waste what money I have on a course that is of no use.

    Many thanks!

Read the entire website for your answer(s)…. It’s all here – you’rre the one to choose. BTW – a really bad time to get into the industry…

As Scott said, read through all the threads, especially in the Rookie section. Many others have taken both courses, many never got work, some did, but others did without doing the course.

Also, there are a lot of experienced people sitting at home right now, and THEY cannot get work, with all the publicity with ROVs over the oil spill in the Gulf, loads of people are piling in to work with these whizz kid underwater robots that are just like a computer game (according to the news).

However just as many do an ROv course and then sit about unable to get work. Good luck!
