I know some West African countries (customs) can be a real pain.. looking for backhanders at the mere hint of something of value in your personal luggage.

I have been through Ghana many times and have yet to hear any stories of people getting stuff taken off them or anyone asking for money.
It’s not like Nigeria, Uganda or Congo.
Cash of choice is Ghanaian Cedes (pronounced seedies). You can use ATMs – no problem. You get about 2 cedes to the pound.
Hotels are clean and some even have wi-fi.
