    Hi all,

We have a guy onboard who has only done about 18months working offshore and is appointed as an ROV Supervisor. The company is registered with IMCA and somehow this guy managed to sneak through the system in to this senior post.
How is this possible and how can this guy be removed as he is not only a danger to the system, but the people his working with?
    Please help someone!

Firstly NO-ONE is "registered" with IMCA. IMCA is an association set up by some companies, they are not law, they do not "certify" anyone, they do not authorise anyone.

Who has appointed him as the Supervisor, the company that owns the ROVs? If so, it is up to them who they appoint and put in charge of their gear. If he has appeared onboard as Supervisor and has come from an Agency, I would suggest someone gets onto the ROV company and tell them to inspect his CV and paperwork from the Agency as someone has most likely lied or forged CVs or paperwork somewhere along the line.

However, it may also be that the ROV company have decided that they wish this person as a Supervisor on their equipment. If so, it is up to them.

If he does anything that endangers other personnel then I would suggest Stopping The Job.

I see you have 2 options

Talk to your manager or safety rep and tell them that you think the situation is unsafe and why. Have some evidence

    Remove youself from the situation

Doing nothing is not a safe option when it comes to safety

Out of utter curiosity is he actually any good? Does the job you are on have a big team and is he in the position because other guys would not do the job but agreed with the office to support him if he took the job?

I seem to recall at Fugro several years back there was one possible two superintendents with less than five years ROV experience who were very good to work for/with. Some would say that is to soon others would praise them for getting ahead.

I would think very hard before answering this post , If you do not have the experience and "Blag" it in the industry ! It is very easy to check ones History 😯
