All of the agencies seem to be requiring supervisors and senior pilot techs.
When will they require the services of lowly pilot techs? There cannot be enough seniors to go around.

But that seems to be the point, as the adverts are for more senior positions, it would appear there are enough Pilots to go around already.

One of the (many) problems within the industry is the slow promotion of lower grades to Sub Eng and Supervisor status.

Unfortunately, this also sometimes means people get promoted to a position they are incapable of doing just because they are short of people.

Some Sub Engineers do not take kindly to being told they are responsible for all the technical aspects of the system (which includes the maintenance logs and stores) and also can be required to run night shifts.

Some Supervisors are incapable of taking charge of themselves, never mind a team.

With promotion comes more money (which is what everyone wants) but with more money comes more responsibility and (supposedly) more experience to sort things when it does go wrong (or hoprfully to stop it going wrong in the first place).

When I was a Sub Eng I much preferred the supervisor to keep out of the way and let me get on with looking after the sub, whilst he dealt with the grown ups

The problem is not the lack of experienced crew but the lack of day rate !

If you look at the ads from the agencys on this web site now .

    Multiple ROV personnel required !

    Seaeye Panther Supervisor Required

    ROV Personnel Required

    Sealion Pilot/Technician Requirement

Most of it is Fugro ME and the reason they cant get people is due to there rates being over $100 – $150 USD under what the current rates are .

So all your going to see for the next few months is the same ads looking for the same people with the max rate of $650 – $700

If there is a slow down yes the rates may fall but not at peak season .

    Good luck

I agree, companies complain they cannot get staff. You pay more, they work for you. It really IS as simple as that.
