    Hi Guys & Gals?
As I’m sure you can see I’m new here so please don’t give me too much of a hard time!

I’m about to do a 3 week ROV course in FW, I already have done my Bosiet, medicals and MIST. I have extensive electrical/electronic and mechanical experience – everything from 32000hp rolling mill drives to single chip micros, I have done hardware and software design. I have qualifications in hydraulics (short c&g course). I fly model aircraft and full size too, I’ve been told that I tick a lot of boxes, I did a few trips offshore a few years ago working on instrumentation and control systems (analysing, fault finding and tuning). Mechanically I have rebuilt car engines and built my own miniature gas turbine for powering an aircraft.

So, any advice on likely job prospects, don’t mind where I work or how long I work for away. I also make very good tea and don’t mind sweeping up, I am a bit of an old f*rt at 50+ years old.

    Any advice gratefully received.

    Cheers IS

My advice would be collect contact information for companies that develop and use rov’s and send them your cv and a cover letter explaining your background.

You should be politely persistant and update them of any new relevant information with an up to date cv eg after your course update your cv and send it out again.

It takes time to get a rov trainee role as there is a large number of applicants and not much demand – but they do still come up so when they do you want someone in recruitment thinking about you!

As for contact info, google companies and check their websites and vacancies. The forums here also have some info.

    Good luck.

I’ve made a start already with the CV’s etc, fingers crossed.

    Thanks for the heads up.

    Regards – John

IS, Saipem were advertising on Northsound Radio (Aberdeen radio station) for ROV personnel today. Have at it.

Thanks for that, I contacted them directly and they have put my CV on file, they expect to be recruiting trainees later this year.

    Kind Regards – John
