Ive spent weeks and weeks reading forums and doing research, talking to experienced professionals on LinkedIn etc. The conclusion I have come to is, if you want to be an ROV pilot tech you have to –

-A, have a trade (elec, electr, hyd, mech) if not do an NVQ

-B, sell yourself and emphasize any part of your existing trade (if you have one) that relates to repairing/maintaining an ROV on your CV.

-C, chase up your enquiries and never give up (the stage im at, at the moment. I am determined to pilot one of these fuc-kers)

-D, there is no harm in doing an ROV course. If anything you will gain some knowledge. If you can afford it, why not. Its your money. I was an employer at one point in my career and for someone to invest their own money into trying to further themselves, I found admirable.

Now im sure ill catch some flack off of several people on here for posting this, as long as its constructive criticism, I dont mind. I wont be disheartened or put off persuing a career as an ROV pilot tech and neither should anyone else. Follow your dream!
