    Hi all

I’m just looking for some advice, i’m looking to get into the rov industry one day and was wandering if doing a hnc in measurement and control engineering at a local college was a good stepping stone in the right direction?

    Any advice is greatly recieved

    Cheers

If you want to do an HNC do one on electrical or electronic engineering or hydraulics.

    Couldn’t agree more!

Also, during that study period I would suggest you get some hands on experience with tools of the trade. Being loaded with theory without having any practical experience is not overly handy when it comes to fixing things offshore.

    Hi,
The course sounds like a new-fangled name for an Instrument Fitter, correct me if I’m wrong.

Having run into a few Instrument Fitter types (ex RAAF admittedly) they don’t seem to have a relevant clue!

Electronics are too technical (no component level knowledge), oil is too oily and high voltage/big-amp electrics are too scary. I guess everything comes pre-packaged in the air force!

While you are obviously not referring to air force training I wouldn’t want the same training/attitudes present on my crew (and they’re not on my crew, thank f$&k).

I would honestly suggest Industrial Electronics/Electrics, Mechatronics or Mechanical Fitting , whatever their modern UK equivalents are, as more appropriate courses of study.

    Cheers
