Has anyone ever been offered a commission for brokering a contract? What I mean is if you are "Joe ROV pilot" and you know where someone is looking for a contract (somewhat long-term 6 months, etc). If you broker that (set up the parties, facilitate the contract, etc) then shouldn’t you get a portion of the cash flow? I would think that most pilots with some history would have a ton of contacts and if the contract was long enough it could pay better than day-rate
i think in a roundabout sort of way -that’s the sort of incentivisation that is offered to company employees – I also think agencies get finders fees for setting up contract positions.
I know about the agencies for finding people but what about agencies or finder fees for finding contracts. Are there agencies/ people who help place contracts?
Very difficult to sort out back to back arrangements. I’m presuming that if you have found a contract for say rov-inspection services, then you put an appropriate rov company together with the contracting body and expect a finders fee?
All things can be done, but you try working out channels of communication when one client rep has to talk to another client rep indirectly through a third body because of contractual reasons and liability clauses. It happens all the time.
What I was thinking was offering a commission if someone were to be able to find a contract. I would not try to take it over if I found out who the contact was. I think that it would be pretty clear that I would not have gotten the contact for the contract even if I had to do half the work to get it.
All these people and all these contacts. There must be a way for people who want some extra money or an off time job to put that to work.
heh heh heh, if I found a contract I’d be buying three of four GTOS and doing what you’re doing! Now if I could only find a DP2.5 vessel, a 3 million dollar bank guarantee and some spanners……. 8)
But if there is a contract you have to have the money up front for the equipment, the salary for the pilots for 2-3 months, the air fare, repairs, etc.
I would be entirely open to negotiation if a long term contract came along but without the capital to put up the deal would go no wehre fast.
I can put a pair of dgps antennae on a dinghy with two chaps n paddles for the necessary redundancy! You’d probably have a couple of meters positioning envelope to work with.
