Just realised how crap pay this ROV game is. Working in Africa with South American who gets UK rates and manages to Scam tax, and local African who does get paid less but pays hardly any tax, after of which still earns more. Both are better off than myself. I have More experience on System than both. One watches TV all day, and other does nothing but sleep! Time for a change i think!

Well it isn’t them that’s for sure. The worst thing about it is as im the only one working for the company (other are agency) they expect us Brits to be the back-bone of the system. Other guys just turn up, print out a calendar and have calculator to hand and count up each day they have been away and what money they have made. Both bugger off after month and don’t care about the system. Both are higher ranked than me and there flying skills are not even Pilot tech level.
Anyway please forgive me for the rant, but its better to get out and in the open. Im sure there are other people out there who have been in my position and feel exactly the same as me.

Well could be worse you could be on a rig with 4 man cabins and locals who smell having to check the riser everyday cos they’ve band tied it with mild steel
    🙄

    It’s a shame isn’t it?
Look how your company is caring for you. I’ve heard it’s good to be a company employee, because as I am so often told.. employees come first. After 20 years of freelance life all I can say is keep living the dream.

Sorry to say this, but these days companies seem to want people to work for them as employees, be loyal, tow the line, look after the systems and at the same time, they work out how to make the most profit at the expense of the very people that work for them full time.. Basically, trusted employee, they are dumping on you without a second thought. What’s that all about?

Rovpilot, methinks it’s time you go freelance! Story of my life; propping-up tossers to make a mint for another bunch of tossers. Lastboy, know where I’m coming from?!

Ja, freelance is certainly the way forward. I think i will go for it yet. There is plenty of work about and no sign yet of a down turn, not for next few years anyway.
ROV soup yes i am on rig with 4 man cabins and local who certainly do smell ripe! Only a week left till home though.
