I know theres alot of these questions on the forum, but i need some advice on ROV courses.. I am looking into possibilities of getting into the industry. Ive got 7 years experience offshore working on survey vessels, and have alot of relelvant experienve such as terminations mech and elec, mux, plcs, optics, some hydraulics and lots of electronics, gained whilst operating deep tow devices….

I was thinknig about enrolling on one of these courses available to get a few hours logged, and wondered what the general consensus is amongst the experienced guys, i realise that a course doesn’t guarantee a job, but does it help during the recruitmeent process (for a trainee for example), or would employers prefer to train techs into pilots?

    thanks in advance for sharing.

…..or would employers prefer to train techs into pilots?

    Thats more the case.

A non technical person, or a tech for that matter, will not be that much wiser about ROV’s after completing a course. Employers know this, so will often rather select and train their own ROV techs in house on their own equipment.

I would save your money, if you have that experience and a good technical backround the employer will train you to their standards. I’d say you have a good chance of getting a start without doing the course.
