    Hello everyone,

I am looking for advice on bringing new technology/ideas to the manufacturers attention,

    Should I develop it myself?
Should I pitch it to companies, if so which ones?
Any help on securing patents would be appreciated.

The homework has been done and the technology has been described as revolutionising rov operations.

I’ve been involved with subsea work for 15+ years.

    Regards.

If you have been involved in subsea work for 15+ years, you should already know which companies to get in contact with.

Plus, is this new technology related to ROV , rigging, …?

Depending on the technology, the company to contact can vary.

    Hi rov_er,

I do know most of the bigger players, this is just my opinion and i might be wrong but I think smaller developing companies would be more interested.

Apologies for the poor description above, the technology would be concentrated on manipulator/tools control systems. With options to add full control systems for the rov

My industry experience hasn’t been completely within the rov industry, this move has happened recently(last few years)

    Hi Muffle,

You could try the following companies:
    FMC Technologies (Schilling Robotics)
    Forum Energy Technologies
    Imenco AS
    ECA Robotics
    Hydro-lek
    Ageotec

    Good luck,

    Thanks,

I’ve made contact with a couple of the above mentioned, fingers crossed they give it a thought.

I was kind of hoping that a small firm might be on this site and took an interest, or there was someone on here which has been in a similar situation. Dragons den next 😉

    Thanks again for the list

Talk to Savante. They would be my first port of call. UK based. Very innovative/dynamic small company involved with subsea ROV sensor/IRM equipment development and marketing.

    Ask for Grant Thompson

    Thanks jamesmc,

I was just looking at their website as your reply came through, looks like the kind of company that would be great to speak too,

I’ve found a few of the companies posts on here, I hope they are still On.

My main concern is the patent, this is where I need help as it’s a massive task covering all sides.

    Thanks again..

Savante won’t screw you over. Talk to them.

There are patent lawyers around that can assist with getting the patent process rolling. Call one up and have a chat as they often offer a free initial consultation.

I could talk about this for hours. In short, I’m not going to influence you with my views on remaining independent vs. seeking finance to develop a product or get negative on the harsh realities of commerce in a globalised industry.

"Patent, keep secret and be FIRST."

I have no free cash available at the moment to help I’m afraid; every last ducket is going to DNV for a TQ project.

I did talk to this chap having warned him about the dangers of disclosure and not to divulge to me anything he wasn’t prepared to see on facebook, but one point I need to make here specifically.

"If you are in the employ of another, please check your contract for any hidden dangerous terms regarding ownership of IPR generated during the service of that contract."

    Hi Jamesmc,

Thanks for the info, savante was great to speak with, very knowledgeable in the info I was needing, thanks savante,

I have had to accept the old saying in, you need money to make money, especially in this market, I guess this will be another idea I see developed in years too come and complain to the missus that I had that idea first.

    Thanks everyone for their input,

    😡
