I’ve been happy enough to work in Africa over the years, but I’ve got to say I had a call from an agency yesterday asking if I would be happy to go to the Congo next week. Normally my first question would be day rate?
This time I asked what polices the company would be implementing to safe guard staff against Ebola. My question was met with an uncomfortable silence, followed by a hesitant "ERRR , i dont think its too much to worry about"
    I declined the work offer!
Just wondering if anyone is hearing anything from their companies with regard to Ebola before they travel to Africa?
    Any info appreciated

I have just returned from Pointe Noire about 4 days ago and many xpats are leaving due to the problems with Ebola its not got there yet but its only a matter of time before it does . Many of the local company’s are looking for replacement crew like Bourbon , SS7 , Sonsub , Abyss and Sea-Rov to name but a few.
But I will not go back not unless they pay more money since its getting to risky at the moment you can earn the same if not more working in Europe .
Like you many agency’s contacted me regarding returning to The Congo , Gabon or Angola but they will tell you any thing to get you down there all they want is there time sheets signed nothing more .

That agency needs naming IMHO. The above is a totally irresponsible approach by an employer to what is a very serious problem.
