ROVSuper,
Yep, the Ark is about right…. Funny thing happened once, I was talking to a Canyon SIN ops. mgr. on the phone about work and the conversation went something like this:
Ops.: "There’s plenty of work, but you have to do the training first".
Me: "Oh, but I’ll be working offshore"
Ops.: "No, it’ll be in the shop"
Me: "Oh, you have a classroom…. Any more instructors?"
Pause / white noise
Ops.: "Yes, there’s a few."
Me: "Well, I don’t really care to work inshore anymore… I’ll think about it."
Pause again
Ops.: "YOU have to do the training."
Me: "I WHAT???"
Ops.: "All personnel have to go through our training program."
Me: "Talk to you sometime or not." "Bye."
Just goes to show you that management can do what they want and you have no rights. Oceaneering had the Safety / Performance bonus scheme some years back (don’t know about now) and if you didn’t suck up to the "BOSS" – ops. mgr., you didn’t get it. Management integrity is NOT where it should be in our industry. There are a few great managers and I say a few only.
