Interesting e-mail copy from IV Offshore / Global on Longstreath.com

Its about ROV rates.

A diver says he got the e-mail by mistake sent too an Italian Subsea construction / Diving contracting company.

Looking at that article; it doesn’t appear to say anything really about driving down rates, only indicative rates as to what they are able to provide at the lower down side of the scales.

Whilst it does say that it can provide the same personnel for cheaper than the clients can provide direct, it would appear (in my ever ignorant interpretation) that this is at the preference of the individual who wants to be paid say on a weekly basis on the agencies payroll rather than submitting an invoice to the client (who in my experience typically take 45-90 days to pay and in certain jurisdictions make it a nightmare from tax perspective !). In that regard it seems it was the choice of the individual to sacrifice a proportion of financial gain for perhaps ease of payment and routine payment?

There also appears to be an element of risk on the agencies part in terms of the fact that they will be obliged to pay the individual per payroll and then have to wait for the cash to come from their clients (which also appears to be linked to the payment terms of their clients client.)

I do think its a real shame that someone is prepared to work offshore for a 5th of what I just paid my electrician to work 8 hours and re-wire my house, but the industry is in a transitioning point at the moment.

I tried to call to introduce myself to you earlier however I understand you are off today
My name is xxxxxxx and I Head up the Crewing department for IV OFFSHORE
I understand you are probably okay for crew at the moment as you are getting lots of CV’s every day
However the reason we are still busy is most of our clients have been asked to cut there operational costs over the next 12 months and we are actaulyl helping with this

Hello all, this is ——-, Director of IV Global.

I understand I am opening myself up here but I would like to explain IV Global’s position in this scenario. The last thing we want to do is drive down the rates paid to you guys. What we have done is spoken to the guys that have worked for us in the past who are currently sitting at home wanting work. We asked them the rate that they would accept in order to get offshore again and are then relaying it to our clients to try and get work for the guys. We are not talking guys into rates they shouldn’t be accepting, we are asking what they will accept and working with that figure.

I am fully aware of the reputation that IV Offshore has had in the past, everyone here is doing their utmost to rectify this. I will defend ———- to the hilt as he is a good guy who, as I am sure many ROV guys will testify, has offered a great service to many over the years. All we are trying to achieve is getting guys out to work. This may be at lower rates than we are all used to (our ‘cut’ is now minuscule) however there are many that would rather have work at lower rates than no work at all.

I am more than happy to have a phone conversation with anyone who would like to discuss further and I would welcome the chance to explain that we are not here to rip off anyone, far from it. If anyone wishes to reach me my number is +44 (0)7943 393569
