THATS IT.
But, you get to play with some pretty cool kit. Stuff you will rarely see in oil/gas or cable.
We had all kinds of great kit.
Fancy sonar arrays, High Definition 16:9 video cameras (on the vehicle). Broadcast cameras. Studio HMI lighting arrays. Doppler heads, High Res digital stills etc etc.
You will spend some time tripping over camera crews and their equipment and maybe hanging out with lisa ling. (NAT GEO Ultimate Explorer). I even got my picture in sept 2004 Nat Geo magazine, (it was a very small picture), not that it will pay the bills but it looks great on the resume/cv.
I will say this and I said it to K2 the other day up on deck, if you want to a get a shit load of experience in a really short time and money is’nt an issue then you cant beat it.
For example, over the eight months that we recovered the coins (all 51000 of them, one at a time, (YES….ONE AT A TIME) we did 262 dives totalling 3474 in water hours. Of that eight months we probably spend at least 6 weeks alongside here and there although I dont know the exact figure for sure.
Most of the above info is available from the website mentioned previously.
Hope this is of use, I probably shouldnt say anymore because I still have a job there if I want it. (i’d hate to lose that bridge).
Later dudes
