Once again…. it’s a sad day brought upon us AS WE HAVE BEEN YELLING, SCREAMING, FIGHTING WITH CLIENTS / THREATENED TO GET RUN OFF FOR BLOODY YEARS ON END for getting under the oil companies skins for requesting for MORE ROV-FRIENDLY DEVICES INSTALLED ON ALL SUBSEA ASSETS!!!!

But NO ladies and germs, the "C" word COSTS have overrode most intelligent suggestions brought up by either us ROV folks in the field and / or the few switched on folks in the offices we work for.

    Did I miss something here?
The note mentions "less than 500 ‘foot’ deep". I doubt rov will apply heavily. Just send the tea-boy down.

Having worked on many Jack-ups and Semi Subs and knowing how they operate,
Can someone please throw some light on the fact that the Oil company is the one being held responcible and not the Swiss-based contractor………….. Transocean ? ……………….. The one whose Drill rig was doing all the drilling being pushed by their Toolpusher ? The one whose fail safe procedures they were following ? and the sub contractor responcible for the Cuttings/mud ………………. Would it have been ………………. Haliburton or another company ?
    All debates greatly appreciated !
Plus is Transocean ( Swiss based ) actually Swiss ? why did they not say Swiss Owned 😕
    The plot thickens 🙄

I believe this is accurate according to US law:
BP of Houston, Tx is the lease holder thus the General Contractor. They are responsible for everything they and their sub-contractors do or do not do. They petitioned the US Fed. Government for the lease and assumed the risks, rewards and responsibilities with the granting of that lease.
BP PLC London is assuming responsibility for BP Houston, though I am unaware if they legally must.
BP will be free to file Civil suit(s) in US Courts if they choose to attempt to recover damages from their sub-contractors.

Because BP is the majority Contractor (60% ?), American owned Anadarko (25% approx) and Mitsui (not sure who owns them, about 15% share) may be sharing in the pain to some degree, I don’t know have not read anything yet. BP PLC did announce in the first days they chose not to take out insurance against the possibility of a spill on this Macondo Well. I am un-informed about blowout insurance.

The US Government pending the results of the Investigations may go after all and any Contractors for Criminal & Civil Negligence related to the deaths and injuries of the 11 Americans at least and the fouling of nature and damage and death to wildlife. Even if found guilt of gross negligence no-one to my knowledge is predicting that any CEO,CFO,COO, Co-Rep, accountant, engineer, TP, Driller, US Gov regulatory agency chief or regulators of the MMS (Marine Management Services) or the chief agency the Interior Dept or anyone else will ever see 1 day of incarceration.
Some money derived from consumers and investors will pass hands.

Looking at all these proposed rule changes, it will be the death of many small ROV’s used in drill support operations, every rig will have to have a full sized workclass with bells and whistles, Best buy some shares in Perry and SMD

Transocean Ltd is a publicly listed company which trades on the NYSE and SIX exchanges.

As to who owns it, obviously the shareholders…

I observe that they are up 86c on the NYSE however, not a bad daily rise on a USD45.13 share price.

BBC News: Oil spill: BP shares rise in London trading

Shares in BP are trading 5% higher in London, recovering some of the losses suffered the previous day.

BP shares were trading at 384p. On Thursday, its shares fell 6.6% as it continued to struggle with the fallout from the Gulf of Mexico disaster.

Swiss-based means that the administration is in Swiss because of tax and legal matters. Same as Allseas, their main office is actually in The Hague.
Transoceans main office is in Houston. Check their Contacts page; the 1st two telephone numbers (Communications/Media/Investor relations) are US numbers.
