Currently offshore, we have a crew member from a well known agency. He talks the talk, claims to have all the boxes ticked to be a supervisor, he says he’s an IMCA Assessor (whats one of those?) and he cant fly. I really mean cant fly, he hasn’t the first idea. Simple task, fly to seabed, locate a pile, GVI it. The trainee flew it to seabed, located the pile and was then called away. The agency guy then got on the sticks and couldn’t do a 360 round the pile, not even close yet he’s the highest paid member of crew. He’s not new, he’s been doing agency work for the last 3 years, how do these moppet’s survive?

They get jobs due to
1) Having a pulse
2) bullshitting CVs
3) desperation for bums on seat.All you can do is report back to your office about his incompetence. I would suggest giving himself enough rope to hang himself but all that would mean is lots of work for the rest of the team repairing it all afterwards.

So is the Trainee and your self and the Agency Supervisor on the same work class on the same shift?
And if he is the highest paid member your working for the wrong company.?
As you should have 3 other Supervisors there 1 being the most Senior.
October 1, 2014 at 4:50 am #35683Bob BacklundParticipantI worked with quite a few of those in my time, the first being a Geordie lad with a bad mullet that managed to stick 17 turns on the tether (don’t ask) when he was doing a basic GVI of a BOP. Then had a yank out in Africa that would take 6 hours filling out a DPR then spend the remaining 6 hours talking about how much he got paid. Then there was a guy that splits his time in Ghana/Devon that fucked the vehicle on the first dive and had the cheek to bail claiming he had only been contracted to work 2 days! Like a previous poster advised, best thing to do is make a sharp short call to the office.

No the agency guy isn’t a supervisor, he’s here as a pilot tech but he claims to have all the boxes ticked to be a supervisor. Thankfully, he’s gone home today.

Trouble is, there’s a shortage of guys so companies rely on agencies but agencies are not interested in whether guys are competent, they are only interested in making money. I know for sure that one company NRB’d a guy so the agency now just sends him elsewhere.
It’s rare to see a full team of competent people these days. Its usually one guy carrying the rest.
