First of all this is not my site however as a member this is getting beyond a joke . As normal member are having to compete for space , We only have 6 slots and it helps no body if 4 of the slots are filled with Maris requirements .
Most of these requirements are not multiple requirements but one requirement at a time .

Why cant Maris do what they did with the requirements with Sonsub , Save up all your requirements then post them at the end of the day .
I fully understand its very busy but as far as I am aware of these services for agency’s placing ads for personnel is free .

I fully understand that there are many requirements but flooding this site with ads is not going to fill your requirements in fact its counterproductive

I might like to point out I have nothing against agency’s they do a good job acting as a buffer when your working for company’s that have a bad history of late payment or in some cases no payment.

We have had this problem before and most of the agency’s now have there own web sites or they use LinkedIn were they can send out as many requirements as they like .

I think there is a trend of moving to linkedin any way for job adds these days. Dont see so many agents posting here for what ever reason.

Does the site have a function of all the last posts say in a period that would help possible to see if any other posters have posted having 6 slots on view and been taken quickly during one business day is just a fact of more traffic these days and was recently all for galley cupboards for some reason not long ago.

Maris has posted quite a bit recently not sure if they have read the new rules?

Maybe the Agency adds could be put in a rolling side section of the forum so when you go to the site its not in the main view but still posted but in a side box of recent agency adds as there is an increase in these adds.

You would see the last add could go to the main forum list and view there or let it role and click when you see of interest.

I would say at first a lot of new traffic to this site comes from people looking for work and they would want all agency’s to post when they get the requirement having them to post once a day does not make business sense from there part or from the job seekers part either all though many have posted multiply jobs at the same time visiting the site so those adds could be joined together i am sure improvements can be made so all still get good use of advertising and using the site.

It would help if the agents posted true requirements in the title as well where possible.

Could there be more than 6 last daily slots? due to increase in posts or increased for last 24 hours so all the last posts are on display? slowing dissappearing to 6 slots as the time frame goes after 24 hours.

Lets not drive away agents from using the site but suggest improvements.

    .

I agree about the number of posts, I have already asked some agencies to post several jobs in one post rather than one post per job.

On the main page at the top right of the list of latest messages is a button marked show/hide, if you press, the number of latest messages expands out, showing other messages you may have missed.

I don’t know about the layout of the site or whether it would be possible for any posts in the Agency forum to not appear on the summary, or maybe give agencies a limited number of posts per day, James is the one to sort that out.

I’m currently continuing the battle against kitchen sales! 😀

I fully understand Ray but I watch one message after the other being added the topic had not been locked so the single topic could have posted as one and not 2 .

I dont think adding extra slots is the answer its a bit like the M25 add more lanes its just the same , I think its like the agency that wont put down job details and in the end I think you were putting the details down for him but in the end his post was deleted because he would not stick to the site rules .

I think in the end its down to educating the agency’s in the correct way to use this free service because at the moment its just a free for all .
Now Maris all ready post on many of the other sites available I dont see why they have to flooded this site with single topics .

However if they think by flooding all known Rov sites is going to get them more personnel there very wrong that’s down to what rates there clients want to pay but that’s a separate topic .

    Cheers

Maris have already been contacted in this respect.. about 5 days back.

Also, yesterday I updated the agency and operator posting requirements at the head of each job section.

    So we are onto this.

Plus…. the forum latest posts on the front page is just a window (add on) into what’s most recent. Go to the main forum and you can see whatever has been posted of late… this is inline with most forums which often do not have a recent post box.

There is even a pretty obvious clue to this option right above the posts…

Click on the Show/Hide text (on the far right) to expand/collapse this block

I seem to recall I added that a couple years back so that people would see it as an option. Clearly that doesn’t work. :tdn:

As for why agencies post here…
ROvworld.com has been around for the past 13 years. It’s easy to see what’s going on, easy to join and simple to post something.

Whilst the likes of Facebook and LinkedIn serve a purpose (I use both by the way) they do little to carry historical discussions that are easily searchable. Our CMS based website/forum has posts and news going back to 2003 which you can review at any time. Try doing that with Facebook or Linked in!
It’s this build up of data and longevity of the rovworld.com URL that makes this site come up high in the search engines over and over.
For that reason agencies and companies see this as a resource worth posting on. They wouldn’t bother if they didn’t get results.

First of all this is not my site however as a member this is getting beyond a joke .

Please bear in mind that this site is run by volunteers who mostly work in the ROV industry. There is no paid full time support behind ROVworld. Members can’t even be arsed to send in day rates occasionally for a section we started a few years back. So no help in that respect either.
In fact there are only three of us Gina, Rayshields and myself that pretty much manage the site and add all content (other than member posts of course!), moderate etc.

We do what we can when we have the time to deal with it.

We do this in addition to our day jobs. In fact for a good few years I haven’t even worked in an ROV shack, but I still work offshore and do my best to help maintain ROVworld the same fashion as I’ve always done.
Gina and I have also recently relocated to Canada and have started a new business here but we still keep plodding away at ROVworld.

If anyone wants to step forward and help out on a voluntary basis then by all means contact us and we’ll discuss options.

Nobody asked us to set this site up. We did it because in 2000 there was bugger all online by way of assisting those in the ROV Industry. I was an ROV Supervisor then. I’m fast getting close to calling offshore work a day. Around that juncture we (admins) will have to consider if we wish to keep this site live or shut it down and just let FB & LinkedIn take up the slack. Try and complain to either of those organisations and see if an admin responds in depth like this!

Thanks James for getting back to us on this subject and I fully understand that this site is run by volunteers .

I did have a feeling that they may have contacted you regarding all the post that they had been putting on the site but after seeing your post on the 21st of May I thought that the matter was sorted .

    Multiple Vacancies?
Please compile them into one post where possible.
It is not good forum etiquette to blast the forum with multiple posts from one member.

I think today 5 out of the 6 slots were Maris ads , One after the other the ads came + came .We both know its a very busy time and many company’s are looking for crew . There are many hundreds of other agency’s out there .

From time to time they also Pop up here with there requirements they dont blast the forum with Multiple Vacancies .

Most agency now days have there own sites or use face book or LinkedIn
and they can do what ever they like .I know this is a popular web site for rov personnel but its one more reason why people have to stick to a few rules in the same way that the agency that was looking for Work Class personnel had his mail removed after being told many times to use the correct format .

But at the end of the day it seems we have to live with this flood of requirements from Maris every day since there is no way to enforce the rules as its very clear what ever you or I say tomorrow the multiple flood of requirements will continue .

    Cheers

Today I sent a contact of mine in Maris an email, as my previous attempts had received no response through the registered forum contact info.

I am pleased to say that I received an immediate response advising that the matter will be resolved internally at Maris. I feel that may be the end of this issue and wish to convey my thanks to the person at Maris that replied to my email within about 20 minutes!

    Hi James,

As you know i have posted jobs here for many years and im not just a desk jockey but this seems to be getting out of control, i now see Seatechs with 3 posts in 7 minutes maybe its time to change the website if possible to just have a link to the jobs section this is just a idea and im unsure if its possible.

Please keep up the good work its much appreciated by all the ROV guys & girls around the world including me.

    Best regards Lloyd Todd

Seatechs have also been spoken too, we will start with nice but if they don’t listen then they may find we don’t really need several Agencies ALL advertising the same jobs 🙂

Seatechs have always been quite accommodating. I’m sure they’ll do the right thing.
