the CAA now require vantage card to be updated with your shoulder measurments for Helicopter flights in North sea , in case u dont fit through emergency exits , cost is £35 but where can one get the measurment done in south of UK????? other wise travel costs will be huge .
worrying for fatties and rugger buggers and workout freaks as they may not be able to fly if bigger then 22 accross shoulders ????
February 28, 2015 at 6:25 pm #35984Ray ShieldsParticipantIts not that they won’t be able to fly, but they will have to sit in a designated seat by a large emergency exit, and there will only be a small number of them on each aircraft.

March 5, 2015 at 3:37 pm #35987Paul BondParticipantI just renewed my medical and i had my shoulders measured at the same time
at Wrightway Health in Gorleston.I guess eventually all the approved docs / medical centres will get ‘trained up’ to do this ‘complicated’ procedure and will charge you for it in the future.
(It cost £40 as a stand alone check, but i got a whole £10 off as i booked it with my medical!!)

shoulder measurements .At this rate there be asking you for money for a survival suit ! Its funny as on many of the projects over in Asia you wear full PPE on the chopper " No Hard Hat but Boots and Overalls " Next problem is Slip on boots or Lace up boots .
I think Europe was only Lace up boots but in Australia it was slip on boots .I think we are in the wrong job guys it should be how to milk extra money out of offshore workers .

The CA-EBS from what I understand is classed as a SUBA device and whole new set of rules have to be followed and at present OPITO have not released guidelines for use in the helicopter training tank, so the old type EBS is still being used.
On a job in Mexico, the client insist on everyone wearing Mexican Safety Boots. They where murder on your feet and of poor quality, I am sure they where both different sizes. I pushed the sole off the boot after only having them for three months. Another guy got threatened with being run off for wearing his UK lace up boots.
Maybe making everyone pay for their food offshore would be the way to go. It would help on the obesity problem offshore. The Armed Forces now have to pay their mess bills despite it being free and part of the wages in the distant past.
April 29, 2015 at 10:52 am #35991deepseaconParticipantWhy not just not issue super size Survival Suits without a measurement?
What % of persons really have a shoulder width of over 22inches working offshore? In NSea sectors anyway?
I would bet its less than 15% of the work force
22inch shoulder width is quite a size
May 8, 2015 at 6:54 pm #35992deepseaconParticipantWell I was a little wrong with my estimate above
It is just under 3% of the work force who have done this check already out of 60,000 persons who are over the 22inches width.
May 8, 2015 at 9:56 pm #35993Ray ShieldsParticipantIts not about suit size. Its about people not being able to get out emergency exits and blocking it for others.
