Norwegian Tax when PAYE

Hi Guys. Last year while working in Norway as PAYE staff, I assumed my company was sorting all my tax affairs out. They are constantly bad at assuring things then not following through, so i don’t know why i trusted them this time. Anyway, everyone that was working for them during that season is being bombarded by the Norwegian tax man saying we owe them money. The company originally buried their heads as usual and refused to answer anyone’s emails. They now say they are looking into it but havnt given any real details. I think its wrong that when you are sent somewhere to work as a PAYE employee you have to sort out your own tax affairs. Has anyone else been in Norway recently and had letters for the Tax man? How did it pan out in the end?

It all went wrong when you said ‘I assumed’.

Unless you have something in writing from your company, unless you have any proof that your company took tax off you to pay Norway and didn’t, you haven’t paid them anything.

The Norwegian authorities are quite good at dealing with enquiries however if you peer then tax then they will have no sympathy that your company was supposed to have sorted it.

You may be worthwhile speaking to tax advisor who is knowledgeable in Norwegian tax.

If you do have to pay tax to Norway and have already paid UK tax on the same earnings, you would be able to get your UK tax back under double taxation rules, you don’t have to pay tax on the same money in two places.

They have paid tax, just not correctly. It more the annoyance of being sent somewhere to work then having to sort my own tax affairs out when they have messed up. Im waiting to see what happens then i might see if my union rep can earn some of his money.

Hi guys as what I know if you worked in Northsea less than 28 days per trip you dont have to pay tax.

I am from U.K and worked there a few times .
