I’m doing research on thrusters, and hope to find a supplier for a rim drive system that will allow me to install propellers of my own design. I’m looking in the small(ish) range of around 250-300 mm diameter systems. Does anyone know of any good resources?

    Thanks!

Just searching this site alone pulled up two previous topics on the very same subject. I guess that’s what search engines are for. 🙄

The last – but not only – people to attempt rim driven thrusters were Schilling on the Quest ROV around the year 2000. It wasn’t a happy experience – for fairly obvious reasons of friction and debris but also they had electric drive. Today Schilling use centre driven thrusters just like everyone else.

There is the odd miniature thruster with rim drive but I don’t know of any current production item at the large size mentioned.

    Cheers
