How hard do they have to make it to get a seamans discharge book???

as hard as you make it get a letter go the office fill the form out pay the money get the book.

On initial application you, or your employer, need to make sure you indicate that you are signing onto a UK registered vessel.

Subsequent renewals are a much more simple process.

All you need is the application form, a letter on headed notepaper saying you work onboard a UK registered boat (naming the boat!) and a cheque for the fee.
