My point is that even if you do have an occatioal pump out situation, the total environmental inpact of a sythetic oil unit that hits the water, gets the job done and goes on is far less than a unit that is less reliable for the sake of being politicaly correct. People get tunnle vision about this sort of thing. The "carbon footprint" of the whole operation, from the fuel the crew uses to get from the house to the dock or helo, genset fuel, DP consumption, if you’re broke-down it all adds up to alot more lost hydrocarbon than the "squirt" we’re talking about . I also have great faith in the oceans ability to cleanse itself, for what that’s worth.
