Tie-in Systems – Flowline / Umbilical Connections

Working on a project where I need to specify the supplier and type of diverless flowline tie-in system. System will be used to diverless connect flowlines to PLEM’s and also looking at Umbilical connection systems to a SUTU.
Any experiences from the guys at the sharp end who have used the various systems, as to their good points, bad points, operability …..
Looking at the moment at Sonsub DFCS, FMC ROVCON etc. Anyone have experience of these, also ICARUS or any Oceaneering systems.
I remember using a Kongsberg CAT system years ago whcih had alot of funky torque tools and seal replacement tools which hung from elevators on the front of the buoyancy…. Sure things have moved on since then though.

Hi horris, just completed a number of ROVCON tie-ins in the norwegian sector, quite a nice system unfortunately a lot more of the tooling operations could be more integrated into the systems rather than being controlled by the ROVs. A lot of the tooling is controlled by hot-stab and this means there is quite a lot of interfacing to the ROV with dirty oil packs, skids and hand held cameras. Additionally to this when completing tie-ins of flexibles or umbilicals if there is not enough back tension in the line, a hold back system needs to be prepared. Horris,

The Perry / Sonsub / FMC DFCS worked pretty well in 1994… Lots of companies and manufacturers have this hair up their arse to re-create the wheel. Just remember that the job (I think) you’re going to do this on, was done with the DFCS (ask Lance) and total ahead-of-schedule-time versus completion time was 56 (or 58) days AHEAD of schedule…… Orifice wallies please note (and snigger) no-bonus awarded to the people who deserved it… (Carunts!)
