Since they advertised on here the other day for electrical/electronic Sub Eng’s, and the thread is locked by the original poster, I will pose my question here.

I don’t work for them, but I have heard that they are asking their current guys to take a 20 – 30% pay cut? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Will the new Sub Eng’s taken on be offered the same rate, or a lower day rate?

    Cheers,

    Roo

Your comments are totally untrue and misleading. For on shore work rates are paid 70% of your offshore day rate. We have very few situations were this applies except extended maintenance periods were the equipment is demobilised or maintenance in our Singapore yard, personal are accommodated in hotels and expenses are covered by the company. Working and living conditions are substantially better than a platform or vessel. I think you will find these rates to be very competitive with other operators in the region.
The offshore rates have remained unchanged and have recently increased. All these kind of questions can be easily answered by contacting some one form ROV operations or offshore recruiting.
The thread is locked because it was not posted as a question but as an employment advertisement.

My suggestion is make sure you have all the facts before posting a comment on an open forum.

So what you are saying you pay 70% of the Aus rate tax free to work in Singapore? well that would be better than working in Aus. And paying the 45% tax rate when have allready high earnings.

Or you pay 70% of the rate payed out of Singapore? Then that would not be good at all.

You do have two rates one for Aus work and one for Asia dont you?

    DOFsubsea,

Good on you for replying to clear things up often operators dont put their coments on the forum in response to coments made by others.

Since this is constructive critisium I’d like to point out that regardless of the fact you are on a vessel or rig or in a hotel waiting to go offshore or working in a yard in Singapore, US,UK or where ever fact is you are still away from home and not able to go home to your family friends etc everyday after work so its irrelavent where you are you are working.
More often than not when you finish after a day in the yard especially in Singapore you are so buggered you just end up have some food and going to bed anyway so its the same as being offshore.
I dont believe guys should be penalized(by way of a pay cut) for having to work in a yard instead of offshore, away from home is away from home full stop!
This is not a dig at DOFsubsea it applies to all operators who think guys should get paid less working on the beach away from home. I thought we had got rid of the travel rate/workshop rate crap years ago, they(operators) were all doing it years ago until guys started protesting with their feet by moving on to other companies!

    Just my 2 cents worth

    all,
FYI, Sonsub singapore pay full rate door to door, that is full rate for mobs and demobs and travel, including mob and demob in singapore or batam.
They do have a workshop rate for base maintenance and system prep before mobs

    Hey Roo

The thread was probably locked by an admin and not the OP. This is a policy that we have resorted to, to prevent job ads from being hijacked as happened often in the past. As a result these days we seems to get more jobs being posted as the agency/operator can post an ad without fear of having to justify why they work for that company or discuss where they were working before etc.

You have done the right thing by starting a new thread on the subject.

    best regards

    Hi All,
this is right, they are knocking 30percent off, for all maintenance work done ONSHORE.
They are then paying the remaining 70percent on a 10hour workday, that then takes the pay decrease up to around 42percent
All OFFSHORE dayrates paid at full rate, so no change there (although haven’t seen the pay rise yet?)

The easy answer is if everyone refuses to do base work, quoting the reduced rate as the reason.

The reality is that there will always be some folk who will do the work at any rate because they need the dosh, they are trying to get a foot in the door, they believe they will not get offshore work if they don’t, etc, etc.

Unfortunately, been there, done that. Fortunately do not have to do it at this point in time (things could change) but can understand why some folk might have to.
