I’ve been in the offshore diving industry for 7 years now, the past four as a mechanical sat. dive tech. I’m pretty sure that my company won’t allow me to transition over to ROV, as good mech tech’s are hard to find. So I’m left with hiring on with a new company as a trainee…all over again. My question is given my experience; army mechanic, diver, sat tech, should I go to an ROV school? Will attending one of these schools help me land a job?
I would suggest that your time served offshore and your mech tech experience would be enough for a company to be interested without you having completed an ROV training course. Fire your CV out whilst you are still working as a Sat tech and see what gives before you make the jump.
