LCD monitors vs LCD TV’s

Looking for a bit of advise, we are upgrading the monitors on a Mohican and considering going from 17" to 22" Wide screen.
Problem we have is all the LCD monitors we have looked at have only 3 imputs or less (HDMI,RGB,DVI) so was considering going for LCD TV which has more input/output options, anybody got any advise on pro’s con’s of using LCD TV over LCD monitor?

Some LCD TV’s can only accept certain resolutions. On most PC’s as you know this can easily be changed to suit but not so some other types of equipment. In my current life have found in a lot of Black Box type equipment (Radar, Sonar, Sounder etc) you are not able to mess with the output resolution for the display.
Hope I make sense. Works fine sometime though, I connected a 60 TV to radar (as a secondary display)I have just installed, never mentioned it and got a call from the master later was flicking channels and up popped the Radar picture. He was speechless, absolutely loved it. 😀

I have found this conversation to be frustrating when talking to the orifice !
The tube monitors maybe out dated and takes up space but at least your eyesight does not get so screwed up. You will notice the difference between LCD and Tube. There is a BIG difference 😯
As for which type of Flat screen , I have only come across a few that have dual input and also straight BNC , The rest have single with phono plus all the other gizmos ( Avg Svhs etc )
The only thing to look out for are the time delay lost sync 😕
You would be amazed at what happens in two seconds when you have no picture and flying in a structure 😀

Go with a higher frequency say 100 – 200 Hz. Nice and easy on the eyes. CRT’s can give ya’ spots Lost. I reckon I’ve got a lot of extra polyps on the upper torso of my (used-to-be) perfect bod. AND why do ya’ think I’ve always worn UV filtering specs? CRT’s are not good for yur health.

Agree that CRT(tube) is much better have alway prefered them but in this case we hace space constraints in the control room and CRT is just not an option.
The monitors I’ve been looking at or TV actually have a very good response time 5ms or less can see it from several angles.

Anyway will keep looking, thanks for the feedback

I hope you’re not comparing LCD’s with the likes of what we had / have for one particular company….. Wouldn’t take those again if they fell off a truck. Spend the money and you can get some really nice ones!!! Re: home entertainment ones but yes!!! Please check it’s input requirements first… rates etc. – not like some folks we know!!!!

These are very nice professional monitors, though not cheap about a grand for the 91" version. There is a 15", 19" and dual side by side 10.4" versions. Not many are sold in the UK yet but they sell well in the USA. I demonstrated on to an ROV company befrore the crunch and they said it was the best LCD they had seen.

If you are after video LCD monitors then the Sony Professional monitors are very good, but extremely expensive.

The LMD9050 9" monitor is about £2720 plus vat….

The LMD2050WHD 20" monitor is about the same price £2570 plus vat.

They are very good for video, but wasted with the average ROV video output.

Dell used to do some multi input monitors, but I don’t think you can get them anymore.

Samsung do some, but thier new ones don’t have a vesa interface on the back so you can’t hang them on the wall.

Would this work, Great LCD but dipped in gold before sale. Lots of Inputs Price is horrendous but work well and then again I’m biased.
