    Dear All,

Has anyone any experience with this unit?

We have a job in 2000 metres of water to clear a 80 metre long x 1 metre x 1metre area for a pipe crossing.

Any ideas welcome, it has to be a unit that can be fitted a Triton or similar vehicle.

I don’t have experience with the Merlin dredgepump, but to me it looks like a small vacuum cleaner.

Have a look at the ScanROVdredge of Scanmudring. This is more serious for cleaning seabed areas. Scanmudring has an office in Aberdeen.

    That is great,

Thank you I will have a chat with them.
I am still interested in other options or suggestions including feedback on the above

Suction and Jetting Super ZipJet Pump sure by Tritech, Merlin dredge pump is perfect. reliable 100% efficient low cost and easy to maintenance and install to all types of WROVs at any depth. Good luck.
i am available for this job. 😀

11 Years ago I was dredging with an ROV at a depth of appr. 250 m. The dredging machine (see picture) we used (and still have) can do the whole area in one run depending on seabed specs. Only problem is that the ROV is rated for 1000m.

I have been told it should be light clay soil, less than 10 Kpa.

I prefer a ROV attached tool but I am worried the rate of dredging will be very slow.

Take care and be sure your ROV can supply the Hyd flow required for the Merlin. It is a lot bigger than the Super zip jet (or Zip Jet ultra) which only needs 40 – 50 litres/min, but but the super zip jet just doesn’t move enough soil.

The spec sheet for the Merlin states 65 – 110Ltrs /min but in reality you cannot do any real dredging until you supply at least 90Ltrs /min. For your application unless you want to take days over the task you really need to be operating this at the max end of the scale.

You state a triton – a standard Triton will not run the Merlin (at least not for long!), The Triton XL can run it, just. You really need to watch the El motor temp. The Triton XLS will do the job, but not from the Aux pump, it needs to be on the main system Hyds. There are very few dirty work packs that can cope with the Merlin.

Scanmudring, GTO and Proserv have similar units.
If I was doing the spec I would look very closely at the GTO SUBSEA dredge system. Although It isnt mounted on the, It has a seperate umbilical for power. The ROV just carries the dredge hose. Still the vessel time saved pays for the unit.

I will try these companies thank you.

The Vehicle could be basically any Vehicle from Triton XL to Oceaneering’s Magnum, …..

The minimum HP would be 100 but like you said a separate power control umbilical could be better since the importance is to keep the vehicle moving and feed the Nozzle as well as possible.

In my experience feeding is more important than High Flow without anything to suck but water.
