I am looking for work in the ROV industry as a Trainee ROV Pilot/Electronics Technician/Rigger. All my relevant industry documentation is in order – Electronics Tech dip, IROV cert, Advanced Rigging cert, Offshore Survival, HUET, Medical Cert, Police Clearance cert, ROV Logbook, Seamans Logbook etc.
However, I do not have any offshore experience but I am willing to work hard and learn the ropes without getting in the way. I am not a muppet, I must however start somewhere.
Any help getting my foot in the door will be appreciated.
Thanx

I need to go to CT to knock on some other doors so I’ll make a point of seeing them. Hopefully I will be able to cut my teeth somewhere in Africa soon… things seem to be picking up a bit in Angola and Ghana… there will be a gap for me somewhere soon….

For our fellow ROV’ers who don’t understand Klingon, I’ll translate: Where is the Oceaneering office located in Cape Town?
November 6, 2009 at 4:24 am #25344GyroheadParticipantEk was ook deur OI in Kaapstad ge-hire ‘n paar jaar terug. Sover ek weet het OI nie ‘n kantoor daar nie. het alles deur Cape Diving gedoen. Werk is maar baie skaars op die oomblik. Waar en wat is die IROV cert wat jy gedoen het, pm my asb.
November 6, 2009 at 4:28 am #25345GyroheadParticipantI also got hired through OI in Cape town a couple years ago. As far as I know OI don’t have aoffice in Cape Town, at the time they used Cape Diving as contact. What is and where did you get your IROV cert.
Posted again as I thought it might look like I’m excluding the english speaking ROV guys. Sorry for that.
November 6, 2009 at 7:02 am #25346ToonParticipantHowzit…
Ja… Oceaneering sold off their testing side of opperations (NDT) to a company called De-tect who now run the ‘Oceaneering’ divisions in JHB and CT under that name. No one at De-tect even knows what an ROV is…??? Anyway, according to the MD, OI kept control of the ROV side of things and apparently staff their opperations in Africa from overseas branches. He can’t give me a specific branch or division of OI to contact in CT.
Wrt the IROV Pilot Course…… as you guys well know I’ll get lynched on this site if I had to say I was and ROV pilot so I’m just telling it like it is… an Entry Level or Introductory Level ROV Pilot/Technician Grade II Certificate…. OSTRAC CT
If anyone knows any better about Oceaneering in South Africa…. I’ll be interested to know their contact details…
I need to get into Africa to cut my teeth and get some hands on work experience…
Regards

There is probably 2 or 3 project managers taking care of various project areas in Africa e.g. Nigeria for the Total AKPO project will be someone different to other Nigerian projects. Go to OI website and get the contact details for the Dubai office………..or better just pm me.
November 6, 2009 at 10:11 am #25348starParticipantthere is no contact in cape town , the small contracts that cape diving had through OI are now over or nearly over, as for having a IROV cert .. well i would not shout that from the roof tops, too many want to be’s waste money on these courses.
but good luck in getting your foot in the door.November 6, 2009 at 10:20 am #25349ToonParticipantRoger that….
It’s the Electronics Tech Diploma and Advanced Rigging that backs the IROV cert…. just don’t want to make out that I’m a ROV Pilot… I’m looking for a trainee position…
As a matter of interest, Cape Diving is also pretty slow these days with permanent ROV staff with nothing to do….

November 6, 2009 at 11:21 am #25350iROVParticipantThere is work heading your way meneer!
November 6, 2009 at 11:44 am #25351ToonParticipantLooks really promissing…. I’ve always wondered why it’s taken so long to start exploring the West Coast… Now one just has to wonder how much Africa time it’s going to take before they actually do anything? Some of the companies down here are going to be holding their breath that’s for sure….
Thanx….
