i went ahead and got involved in the MTCS competency program that UKPS has adopted. i paid the money and got the sub eng/snr pilot tech stuff and i am a little confused. basically it asks 3 questions and i provide documentation that i meet the requirements for sub eng. along with previous appraisals. the question i have is this
can it really be this easy? there are no sign offs? nothing to prove competency other than this? no taking a manip apart and putting it back together? i feel like this might be a ripoff if i am being put in line behind someone who does this competency program.
anyway i hope that they (MTCS) just forgot to send me all the papers in the email. but if im wrong, someone who has done this program let all of us know if it really helped you.

    thanks

It sounds like UKPS wrote a witness statement.
This statement must say that you are competent at this grade under IMCA guidlines C001 and competencies R02/01-08. You must also have worked in this capacity for a minimum period of time before you can get grandfathered like this.
MTCS will assess their application, and if happy, you will get the grade you deserve.
If you do not have this experience and UKPS has managed to get you this cert, then there are possibly some shenanigans going on., which might bite them in the arse at a later date (and you run the risk of losing your cert).
MTCS are probably the best and most honest on the market, and an industry leader in the ROV competency field.

That is dead right it was set back up by Richard Warburton and they moved from the site in Ambleside back to Kendal. The Ambleside site is now a golf shop and quite a good one at that.

As for MTCS. They are pretty good they did my ROV departments high voltage training and the guys on the course seem to be a good level of safety perhaps even to the point of going over the top however you can never be safe enough I suppose.
