Do they ever give up?

When reading about the tiered work visa requirement for the UK, neither IMCA nor City & Guilds ‘Certificates’ relating to ROV can be found on the lists of accredited Institutes and Qualifications. The alarming fact is that the courses had been and are probably still subsidised by the UK tax-payer to assist ex-Servicemen for entry into the big-wide-world after discharge.

It is about time that the ‘schools’ be criminally charged for blatantly misleading their students, government and tax-payers.
It is a scam that has endured for years.

The vast majority of people attending and paying for these courses are self sponsored and are subject to marketing hype which draws them to part with their money.
There have been plenty of discussions about who benefits from this money.

As far as governments and tax payers paying out for these courses for servicemen and women on a pre retirement or pre demob then so be it.The people make their choice in which field to retrain whether it be ROV ,diving or cooking hamburgers ,it is their choice.

I for one ,and Im sure Im joined by many others, in saying that servicemen and women, deserve the opportunity to retrain in whichever field the want ,and I am happy that governments allow them the opportunity to do so.

Please do not make our forces feel guilty about their choices on what they want to do.They have put themselves on the line for you and everyone else, and I wish governments would spend more of the tax payers contributions in helping them resettle into a world that they have not been part of for up to twenty odd years.

Personally speaking, more ex forces personell would succeed in our industry, than someone off the street or fresh out of university,they are generally more dependable.

Sorry its a bit off topic ,but they ,specifically, are not part of the problem here.

Sorry disagree with you there , I have come across many people in this Industry as diverse as Gravediggers to Airfix model makers and they have come along just fine 😯 It’s the personnality that counts and not all service personnel are …………. adequate.
Anyway The Market is swamped and Greedy little Cretins that have no thoughts on the after effects or stability of this Industry are still trying to make money on the backs of others 👿
They are Lying if not indirectly about how this Industry is (Do Our course and you will earn etc…..") and Insulting everyone in our profession who is trying to make a living and keep up with inflation 🙁

Not all inteligent people go into inteligent jobs and just because someone might be in a profession that is used to receiving orders does not necessarily mean he or she has the right aptitude for ROV’s.
If the "supposed" schools had any ounce of brain matter they would realise they are killing the "golden goose" 😯
But we all know we are talking about money grabbing barstewards 👿

Yep…. Can’t say you’re wrong there… Met more than a few divers, car mechs, and the like that have turned out to be top class rovers. Once again, "time in (not the service) service" and an ROV-related trade work for job applicants. Back to my old chestnut of in-house training for all – it has worked in the past BUT the job applicants really should have some experience and schooling in an ROV-related trade. Of course we need trainees, remember the drought of ROVers some time ago? Twas hard to get time off! Now??? Pfffft! More to discuss I suppose…
