Any recomedations for HD cameras for Pipeline survey?

Hi
Just been asked to get involved in an upcoming pipeline survey project.
I had many years as part of an rov team from numpty to Supt but left the practical side of things behind when moving across to Rep work.
Obviously a lot of advances have been made since i was in the shack and people are talking HD for video now.
Can anyone recommend an HD Camera that could be used on a pipeline survey spread and whether any special or additional equipment is required outside of normal fibre optic lines.
we are looking to fit the survey spread to something like a Seaeye Panther, Sub Atlantic Mohawk or possibly a small work class.

Any thoughts, info or input greatly appreciated.

We use a Kongsberg OE14-502. It has a good enough picture and there are various output options now.

Insite Pacific do a very good camera called the Mini Zuess which seems to be well received within the science community.
You will however have to get some decent lights as the HD cameras are very light hungry. You can some big bad 20000 Lumen lights from Deep sea power and light. If in the UK I think Benex are the local suppliers. There are also other companies such as Cathx Ocean who do some decent ones of varying brightness. The insite pacific supplier in the UK is EDS Ltd.

if you ar going HiDef you will need HiDef DVRs, the NETmc Marine HIDef Inspector takes in SDI, can handle 720i/p and 1080i/p and can be controlled by third party software download datasheet from [url]http://www.netmcmarine.co.uk/download/Datasheet/latest_pdfs/DVRi_HD.pdf.

This is generating quite a bit of interest.

We (Bowtech Products) have a few HD camera options suitable for your application. These can be configured to output HD-SDI over coax or direct over Fibre to the surface. From memory, I’m sure the ROVs you mentioned can be fitted with HD-SDI capability.

Sorry for my empty posting earlier, must have had a senior moment. What I meant to say is, have you considered how you will record the HD video? As a representative for NETmc Marine, i would suggest you should look at the Hi Def version of the DVR Inspector, this is a HiDef MPEG4 DVR with some very nice options. send me a PM if you want more details or call the office.

With regard to storage one option we have recently trialed is a KIPRO unit which is directly compatible with Final cut pro video editing software and can then be output into a variety of options. This may be slight overkill for the commercial market but scientists and National Geographic love it. It is also reasonably cheap to set up. the recorder spare discs(enough for well over 24 hours) a storge system such as a Drobo mac book and editing software comes in at under 10k. Once set up I think I had recording costs at under 3 euro an hour which was the cost of the Hard drives to our company which the client took away with them.

This was compared to recording on the old sony tapes which can work out at around 20 euro an hour to purchase.
