Hi
I’m halfway through a marine science degree and I’m starting to think about what I want to do afterwards.
I’m a fish farmer by trade but I’m interested in some kind of technical offshore job. Not neccesarily and ROV tech but something along those lines. I just enjoy working with machinery and fixing things. Since I started doing degree I realised I want a job where I’m up to my arm pits in oil most of the time.
The only technical background I have is 2 years as an apprentice mechanic working on mobile cranes back in Ireland. But I left that at 18/19 so even though I have a fairly sound knowledge of basic electronic and hydraulic circitry and mechanical systems. I have no qualification to prove it.
So I suppose my question is; Is there a hands on career offshore for me and will a marine science degree be enough or should I explore doing some technical course alongside it.
I was thinking of doing a HNC part time in instrumentation and control engineering
Thanks
