Valvepack is installed on super mohawk. Losing telemetry at exactly 300fsw. All air has been bled, and whip is good. Just wanting to know if anyone has witnessed this before…
Not looking forward to pulling pack apart to replace v.p. "intelligent" board #1216. Thanks in advance for any input.

So, everything checks out on deck…then it loses the plot at 300fsw. Sounds like a dodgy pin on the 37-way that acts up when a bit of a squeeze is applied. Try a new cable…

Hi the cable is only a 9 way as it’s control is RS232 but it could still be the problem also it could be the cyrstal on the valve pack board breaking down as there have been problems on some 6000m systems with a different one.

Had a similar problem on a Commanche a couple of years ago, we were working at 1800m but lost comms at 500m every time we dove, what we found out were that the pop off valve on the JB were pressure sensitve and after 500m (which they are set for ) we got water ingress. After drying everything out 😕 (didn’t have a spare board) We replaced the pop off’s and blanked them. This resolved it for us. Good luck mate hope you get sorted.

Not familiar with the Super Mohawk but have seen similar problems with a Seaeye sub.

Is the bulkhead penetrator a circular Subconn?

If so check closely that there are no fine cracks between the rubber body and the metal base of the connector. It is possible to get either no contact or a short between pins at depth, this will not necessarily blow fuses or affect the DC supply as it may only be the data lines affected.

    Good luck.

We had a problem with the bulkheads as well on a valvepack where as Sitrep has said, a bit of pressure on it and it was shorting out. Not the same problem I know but if the whip is good also check the bulkheads not just for delamination but also megger it. Just don’t forget to detach it from whatever it is connected to in the valvepack….. 😀
