    Hi,

I’m trying to embark on a career offshore (hopefully in ROVs) from the RAF. I’m looking at doing my BOSIET, MIST and medical. I’ve found a provider for the courses but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a provider for the medical that they have found to offer a competitve price? Frustratingly the websites I visit don’t display prices making it impossible to compare.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Michael

I’m not sure about the cheapest price but I have booked mine at the same time as my BOSIET and MIST course for about £110 incl. VAT .
    Hope this helps.

I should add that that’s with Survivex in Aberdeen. I’m in a similar position to yourself having PVRd from the RAF. Good luck

Thanks mate, I’ll check out that company.

Can I ask how much the courses were and did they do military discount or similar? I found a company called Falck Newtec in Aberdeen and they are £1000 + VAT for the BOSIET, MIST and ‘free’ banksman stage 1 trg.

    Cheers

I paid £770 ish for BOSIET, MIST and medical. They had an offer on at the time, it may still be available. No military discount but if you’re in resettlement you can use your GRT to pay for most of it and if you have your SLC you can use that as well. If you do it that way it will cost you around 50 quid

Michael, just thought I’d give you an update. I’ve done my medical and BOSIET now and the facilities and training are second to none. Everything is brand new, really professional and lunch is thrown in with the course cost. Bargain!

    Nice one!

I’ve booked mine for 20 Feb. It is with Maersk. They are about the same price. SOme of the ones I looked at were well expensive; £1000 for falck newtec!! They did say it includes a ‘free’ banksman and slinging. Now to find a job…

Have you had any luck in the job hunt? If you’re on linkedin.com then look me up. Michael O’Connor.

    Cheers

Not sure what the banksman involves but there are a few people on my course staying on for it. I think they paid around 1k for it all so sounds about right. No luck on the ROV pilot front but some promising offers in subsea. I really want ROV Pilot so I’m holding out for the job I really want. I’m booked in for the pilot course at MTSC for February but would really like to avoid the 2.5k costs. I have a couple of contacts which seems to be the best way in.
I’ll try to connect on linkedin

Just read this thread. I find that Fleetwood Nautical College offers a really good value survival and medical. Unless things have changed you do not pay VAT there due to its status so it is 20 percent cheaper instantly.

I do my medicals at a local doctors surgery. The combined UK and Norwegian medicals cost around 65 pounds. An ENG 1 medical cost 60 pounds.

Banksman courses are a good idea but not essential. That is the kind of training most companies give you anyway. For the benefit of those who do not know the banksman is the guy on the deck who directs the crane using hand signals.

Thanks Jim, I’ll take a look at their site.
