The due date for filing a 2011 US Income Tax return is 17 April 2012, but because this year April 15 falls on a Sunday, additional time is granted. To qualify for an automatic two-month extension until 15 June to file a US Tax return for 2011, you must live outside the US and the main place of work must be outside the US. If you meet these tests, even though you can file the return by 15 June 2012, if you do not pay the tax owing by the regular due date (17 April), you will owe interest on the tax due.
