Norwegians are paid more than us because they are superior in every aspect of the job. Get over it cake fuck.

As 225 said, we work with people from other countries, they do not earn the same as we do.

The guy who flips burgers in MacDonalds in Moscow does not get paid as the guy who flips burgers in MacDonalds in London.

If you move and live in Norway, you will get a Norwegian contract and be paid their money (and have to pay their taxes and cost of living).

Totally agree with you rayshields. Uk dayraters are actually earning a bit more today than noggies considering total costs of living.

Well I am not a noggie eventhough living in Norway. And on salary at present time so I will let lads with first hand information answer this. After what I have heard from dayraters, both UK and Norway and others have UK guys little to complain, considering taxes and overall costs compared between UK and Norway. That is if you don’t choose to live in Norway, eat shit, live in a tent and nick a bicycle:)

It is causing a bit of friction on one of our jobs, We have Norwegians on 132 day contracts, with a Sub Eng getting UK equiv of £65000 flat rate (2 weeks on 4 weeks off, overtime pay after day 11 (65000/132). Living in Norway paying Local taxes etc, incidently the rate (I have been informed) works out at 45%.
We have a Norwegian Supv on a Norwegian contract earning UK equiv £165000 for 28/28 rotation, paying no tax etc living in Thailand.

We then have personnel from our parent company (UK) getting 150 day contracts on higher equivilent salaries and dayrates.

And we have the Subsiduary ROV / Survey company who’s contracts are 175 day contracts and lower salaries.

And you think everything is hunky dory 😯 , total ingreidients for a lot of disgruntled people, not a job I would want to be on. The bitching must be immense 😆
Note, this is not Agency personnel (which you neg your own rates) this is company employees on the same vessel, talk about divide and conquer.

Sorry I should have explained my point of this post. We should be taking the companies to employment tribunals, it’s direct racial discrimination. The companies will need to justify the cause for unequal pay.
    This link explains all.

    http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/advice-and-guidance/tools-equal-pay/checklists-equal-pay-in-practice/2-equal-pay-for-like-work/

I think the fact that the job is still a half decent one puts people off this idea, well you have the option of whistleblowing with an employment tribunal and your employer doesn’t find out who’s complaining about them.

What happens when a tribunal decides equal pay should be awarded in these circumstances? 2 and 4 rotations for us, more personnel required, better contracts, agency rates go up as well?? What else…..answers please?

I will, but only when a company can justify in court, why the contracts are so different.

Unfortunately they do not need to as each company is paying their own staff the same money.

Company A and Company B are two separate companies, one UK based, one Norwegian. They may be sister companies under another company, but by law, they are separate companies.

If Company A employed people at teh same grade, same experience etc and paid them different pay due to where they lived or their nationality, that would most likely be illegal.

If Company A employs someone and Company B employs someone else and both are the same level, they do NOT both have to pay them the same.

If they did, McDonalds in Moscow would have to pay the same wage to their Burger Flipper as McDonalds in New York.

Yes of course, but what happens when McDonalds in Moscow floats into the UK sector (like the vessel I work on) then has to abide by UK law, then Mr Moscow gets equality.

If you read the story, it states that the Brit and the Norwegians all worked for the SAME company, not a UK leg and a Norwegian leg as I explained.

It would be discrimination for people doing the same job in the same company to be paid different pay. But if I work for Joe Bloggs (UK) ltd and my Norwegian colleague works for Joe Bloggs (Norge) AS, then it is not illegal.

Is this just your opinion or fact? I’m pretty sure I already read that equal pay is consistant with sister/parent companies.
