Hi, my name is Candy and I’m looking to become an ROV Pilot or Tech. I have a background in electronics and i’m looking at ROV training courses. I was very keen to know though what sort of salary I could expect as a new ROV person in Europe or North America. Do pilots and technician get paid the same ?
Thanks – if anyone can help that would be great!

    Hi Candy,

Don’t expect a high salary especially when you are just starting in this field. Just try to learn everything and don’t be shy to ask questions to your co-worker. Good luck!

ROV Pilot Techs (ROV PT) are one and the same thing. There is not a separate position for each but they do have different grades.

So do you know what a new recruit could expect? I’d rather join someone like oceaneering, fugro or subsea7 than be a freelancer (initially anyway)
    Thanks candy

You’d be better starting as an employee. Forget freelance at this stage.

Depends where you are in the world as to what the starting rate might be.
I have no idea what Trainees start out on these days.

Ive been offered a start as a trainee on a salary which is the same as my current salary as a maintenance sparky / plc programmer.

But how much do you think i would likely make after my trainee period was over and how long is realistic for a trainee to be upgraded?

PM me or reply here if possible. Thanks

I doubt if you would be on a trainee rate for more than a year. Maybe others have recent experience of this. As for what you would earn after that… I’d expect a 25% hike (maybe more) in rates when moving up to the next level.
Again: Maybe others have recent experience of this and can post here.

Just curious. Do companies pay a basic annual salary+day rates?

    Yes, that’s quite common.
