    Hello ROV friends 😛 I have just been offered an ROV trainee job. It starts just over a months time. Im just asking if anybody knows some good material I can find/attain to put me in good stead for the 5weeks classroom/practical training. Brief history of myself is I’ve just left the queens finest Airforce, where I was an aircraft mechanical technician for 10+years. Technically I’m still in, as im payed up for next couple months 😀 My knowledge is on the mechanical side, so I’m going have to pick up electrical theory. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    That sounds like youre joining Oceaneering?

    If you’re mechanically biased then start to read up on electrical / electronics, that will help along with comms like RS232, 485 etc.

    Hey Innerstate, I never knew about Oceaneering recruiting. I do know ITECH7 are in the process of recruiting tho. But it’s TECHNIP I’m very fortunate to have opportunity to prove myself with. Their place at Westhill is very impressive and the people are also very friendly, so I know I’m onto a winner here 8)

    I have purchased "How to fix and diagnose everything Electronic" to read up on. Im not complete novice tho, I can read off an electric schematic as they are laid off quite like a hydraulic schematic, and the theory of electricity can also relate fairly closely to hydraulics flow also. It’s the sonar and communications side of things which I’m unsure of. Exciting times 😀

    I wouldn’t worry too much – surely the 5 weeks training will give you the basic knowledge they want you to have. If it doesn’t, then it isn’t a good course.

    My advice would be to absorb as much info as you can, ask plenty of questions and then go out into the field with a bit of humility. No-one knows everything, (there are some people out there that think that they do…), so you will be learning on every trip.

    Make a concerted effort to get on with your fellow team members and then enjoy the ride…….

    Good advice norfolknchance. I’m not worried, just eager to pick up some good prior knowledge, so I can hit the ground running.

    Ha, yeah my 12 years in the RAF has taught me to approach a new chapter with humility as nobody gives time to a know it all, gob sh**te oxygen thief 😉

    Congratulations and well done, Ive worked on a couple of Technip vessels and the experience was good every time, enjoy.
