More and more recently I hear from the agencies that the client is only offering fixed rates and here is no room for negotiation.
The likes of Saipem and Reef spring to mind.

In the past this has never been the case. Rates were negotiated, based on experience and responsibility level to name but a few.

I can only assume it is either:

    a) Cobblers
    b) The agencies trying it on
    c) The agencies/clients honing in on inexperienced ‘cheap’ labour
    d) Cutting down on "Hurt feelings Forms being filed from teams offshore

My guess it’s A, but I could be wrong.

I would be interested to hear the opinions of other forum members.

    Hiya T-Boy,

Once upon a time agencies worked for the employee and thus we were their de-facto employer; now that the world is full of "instant" ROV pilots it’s all changed.

I’m afraid it’s all going to head south (day rate wise) anyway; pay shit, they (clients) deserve the shit that happens.

Most agency e-mails that I receive are going straight into the bucket because they won’t state: pay, location or vessel (IV Offshore are you reading?).

    Enjoy your cuppa,

There is nothing new about these silly rates on offer speaking for myself if they cannot pay the going rate I wont work for them its that simple .

But Ivyoffshore is not alone , I have found in the past the best agency’s to work via have no need to flood the market with job requirements . When was the last time you saw a ad from Hydrosub or Proffs but there still there .

As for the clients well most have no idea and are guided by people who seem to love doing courses so every year the requirement gets harder to find suitable personnel .As for the rates in most cases the rates have gone down or have stayed the same for years just look at the day rate on offer from Fugro in the middle east $750 USD for supervisors . I dont think that rate has moved in 5 years, Problem is the cost of living has gone up and up just walk in your local supermarket or fill up at your local petrol station.

So there you have it ! Its up to you if you accept these silly rates !

I just love it when the rate you quote is too much and then two weeks later they come back and accept the quote you asked for …………… That’s when I put my rate up ! 😀

All right, make my option starve or accept work at 3/4 proper wage. Fine. You get 3/4 givasht. That’s me with me arms folded and head wagging when newbie pilot wraps it around the drill stem. "His paperwork says IMCA certified". Client asks for stupidarse orifice specified custom post install survey — hey, fine with me if that anchor 30m down range in path of proposed P/L route gets discovered when your 250k/day lay barge is on location on standy. You want a guy who takes pride in his work and saves you three times the agency fee daily with his knowledge and professionalism and experience — PAY HIM! Or I’m quite happy to supervise the offloading of your run-off two bit operation. Take a pic –that’s me with the smile and one finger salute to your bonus on saving 5% on personnel day rates for the quarter.
